Meal Buddies on Wheels
Since the beginning of April, we have delivered a Meal Buddies on Wheels service to approximately 50 older people per week. 6 meals per week are freshly cooked in the Inspire kitchen and then packed up into takeaway containers for delivery on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. We have a team of volunteer drivers that deliver the meals in brown paper carrier bags. The meals are prepared using produce from Fareshare and supplemented with additional donations from local suppliers such as ASDA. The meals aim to follow a ‘traditional menu’, suitable for heating up in the microwave. This scheme will run until December 2020, and anyone wishing to join please call Kate on 07459 629955. There is a £10 per week contribution from the individual.
We have delivered in excess of 1,000 meals so far.
Phone-a-friend
Throughout lockdown members of the project kept in touch with each other through a peer-to-peer support telephone tree, with most people ringing up to 5 friends per week. We also welcomed new volunteers to become phone-befrienders and have worked with Levenshulme Good Neighbours to find long term befrienders for those older people who wanted them. A friendly call once a week, has been a lifeline for many older people.
Shopping, Prescriptions & Odd-jobs
Kate and Paul have been shopping for housebound older people and undertaking a variety of ‘odd jobs’ such as connecting a new smart TV, changing batteries in smoke alarms and taking the rabbit to the vet. Whatever, you need – we can do it (within reason).

15 gardening packs
This work is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until the end of December 2020.
All of our over 50’s activities are located in South Manchester,
Levenshulme, Longsight, Gorton and are easily accessible by bus.
